ဒီ Concept လေးကို “Stolen Focus” by Johann Hari လေးဖတ်နေတုန်း
Flow: The Psychology of Optimal Experience by Mihaly Csikszentmihalyi

“Working this hard, I wonder if you ever feel tired.”
“You really don’t need to try this hard. Being human is already valuable enough without overexerting ourselves like this.”
Have you ever told something like this before?
Or maybe you’ve said it to others before?

Actually, being in this state is what we call being in the “flow.” To put it simply, it’s like being “in the zone.”

For some people, work is exhausting and frustrating.
For others, it’s boring.
And then there are those for whom work feels like playing a game, where finding solutions is part of the fun.

People’s attitudes towards their work vary greatly.
The stages they’re at in their careers also differ.
That’s why passions differ although the tasks may be the same.
People’s levels of engagement and connection to their work vary.
When they enter the flow state while working, they label this experience as their passion.
But when they don’t reach the flow state, they might say, “This isn’t for me.”

In reality, any task can become a passion. The flow state is achievable by everyone. How to reach the flow state is illustrated in the graph below:

When challenges and skills are balanced, you’re in the flow state. If the challenge exceeds your skills, you experience stress, frustration, and anxiety.
This often happens in jobs to some people who’ve been doing it for a while but constantly face difficulties.
But then, if their skills exceed the challenges, they might feel bored or disengaged.
This occurs when they’ve been doing a job out of passion for a long time, but eventually, it starts to feel monotonous.

Such individuals need to move to the next level. So, when someone says they haven’t found their passion, I have only one thing to say: try doing it for at least two years. Passion isn’t something you find by trying something once and instantly liking it. It develops as you work on it, as your skills improve. It’s about aligning your work with your challenges and skills until you enter the flow state.

Once in the flow state, working, talking about the work, or contemplating it becomes more enjoyable than seeking other pleasures.

I came across this concept while reading “Stolen Focus” by Johann Hari, which included Psychologist Mihaly Csikszentmihalyi’s idea of the flow state.
