Reality vs Perception

____________
Have you ever thought, “Why are people so hard to understand?”
Or perhaps wondered, “Is it because I don’t understand their mental model that I think this way?”

Everyone has their own mental map—a unique framework of thought.

Mental Models are the decision-making frameworks in our brains.
To think more effectively and develop better solutions, I’d like to share some practical mental models:

1. Reality vs. Perception
– Everyone has a different version of reality.
– What we perceive is influenced by our personal beliefs.
– Therefore, it’s essential to question and reassess our perceptions regularly.

2. First Principles Thinking (Breaking Down Complex Problems)
– Continuously ask “Why?” to dig deeper into the root causes.
– Challenge your assumptions and preconceived ideas.

3. Second-Order Thinking
Ask yourself:
– “What will happen next?”
– “What are the possible ripple effects of this action?”
– “Who will be impacted, and in what ways?”

4. Applying the 80/20 Rule
– Prioritize the 20% of tasks that deliver 80% of the results.
– Balance your effort with the desired outcomes.
– Use your time and energy wisely and strategically.

Ask Yourself:
– “Are my mental models holding me back?”
– “What biases might be shaping my perspective?”
– “What are my biggest time-wasters?”
– “Am I considering the long-term consequences of my decisions?”

Pro Tip: The more consciously you analyze and refine your mental models, the better decisions you’ll make.
